BANGKOK: The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned on Sept 15, 2026, that parts of Thailand face heavy to very heavy rain from Sept 17–20, bringing risks of flash floods and forest runoff. The warning also forecasts rough conditions in the Andaman Sea.
The North and Northeast will be the first regions affected on Sept 17, according to the TMD. Heavy to very heavy rain is then expected in some areas of the Central region, East and South from Sept 18.
Heavy and accumulated rainfall during Sept 17–20 could trigger flash floods and forest runoff, the TMD warned. Particular caution is needed on foothill slopes near waterways and in low-lying areas.
People travelling during Sept 17–20 should avoid routes with recurring flooding, particularly low-lying roads where short-term waterlogging could develop, the TMD advised.
The TMD forecasts fairly strong winds over the Andaman Sea and waves of 2–3 metres during Sept 17–20. Waves could exceed 3 metres in thunderstorms.
Small boats in the Andaman Sea should remain ashore from Sept 17–20, the TMD advised. Mariners in both the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate cautiously and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
A high-pressure system, or cool air mass, from China is expected to extend over the upper North and upper Northeast, the TMD said. The advancing air mass will push the monsoon trough south across the lower Central region, East and upper South.
The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and Gulf of Thailand will also strengthen, contributing to the wet conditions, according to the TMD.
The TMD issued its first warning for the Sept 17–20 period, No. 1 (205/2569), at 5am Thai time (UTC+7) on Sept 15. The announcement was signed by Nattawut Dandee, deputy director-general for technical services, acting on behalf of the TMD director-general.
The TMD urged the public to plan daily activities and travel carefully during Sept 17–20 and follow further announcements. Weather information is available around the clock through the TMD website and on 02-399-4012, 02-399-4013 or 1182.

Ja jäklar vilket regn vi fick på väg till Phetchabun och verkar vara mer på gång. Bitvis fick man hålla ned hastigheten rejält.

A police lieutenant colonel and three other men were arrested yesterday, September 15, after they allegedly extorted 200,000 baht from a Chinese national in San Kamphaeng district, Chiang Mai province.
San Kamphaeng Police Station officers arrested the lieutenant colonel, who served as an inspector with the Special Operations Sub-Division of Provincial Police Region 5, yesterday. His identity has not been disclosed publicly.
Three others were arrested in connection with the case on the same day: 28 year old Serksak, 39 year old Narakorn and 38 year old Siraphob.
The arrests followed a complaint from a Chinese national, who told investigators that the police officers, their subordinates and civilians raided entertainment venues in the San Kamphaeng area in August as part of a drug crackdown.
The group reportedly encountered the Chinese man at one entertainment venue. They allegedly took him out of the venue and demanded 200,000 baht in exchange for his freedom.
The Chinese tourist subsequently reported the matter to the Chinese Embassy and San Kamphaeng Police Station. Further investigation led police to identify those allegedly involved.
According to DailyNews, the police lieutenant colonel and the other involved police officers were charged with malfeasance in office and using their positions to extort property.

An active low-pressure cell over Cambodia is moving along a monsoon trough. The trough lies across the lower Central and East regions. A southwest monsoon is strengthening over the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf. Meanwhile a high-pressure system covering the upper North and upper Northeast is weakening.

From Nakhon Si Thammarat southward, winds turn westerly with similar wave heights.
South (west coast)
Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast in Ranong and Phang Nga. Lows of 23-25°C and highs of 30-34°C are expected. From Phang Nga northward, westerly winds of 20 to 35km/h are expected. Waves reach 1-2 metres, above 2 metres in thundershowers. From Phuket southward, winds turn southwesterly with comparable wave conditions.
Warnings
The department warns that heavy to very heavy rain may cause flash floods, overflows and landslides. Waterways near foothills and lowland areas face the greatest risk. Ships in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf should steer clear of thundershowers. Waves may reach 2-3 metres in the upper Gulf, and above 3 metres during thundershowers. Small boats in the upper Gulf are advised to remain ashore until 27 September 2026.

From Surat Thani northward, northwesterly winds of 10 to 20km/h are expected. Waves reach 1-2 metres, above 2 metres in thundershowers. From Nakhon Si Thammarat southward, winds turn westerly with similar wave heights.
South (west coast)
Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast in Ranong and Phang Nga. Lows of 23-25°C and highs of 30-34°C are expected. From Phang Nga northward, westerly winds of 20 to 35km/h are expected. Waves reach 1-2 metres, above 2 metres in thundershowers. From Phuket southward, winds turn southwesterly with comparable wave conditions.
Warnings
The department warns that heavy to very heavy rain may cause flash floods, overflows and landslides. Waterways near foothills and lowland areas face the greatest risk. Ships in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf should steer clear of thundershowers. Waves may reach 2-3 metres in the upper Gulf, and above 3 metres during thundershowers. Small boats in the upper Gulf are advised to remain ashore until 27 September 2026.
