Winds are variable at 20 to 40km/h, with waves of 1-2 metres, above 2 metres in thundershowers.

South (east coast)

Fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Surat Thani. Lows of 22-24°C and highs of 29-33°C are expected. From Surat Thani northward, northwesterly winds of 10 to 20km/h are expected. Waves reach 1-2 metres, above 2 metres in thundershowers. From Nakhon Si Thammarat southward, winds turn westerly with similar wave heights.

South (west coast)

Scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast in Ranong and Phang Nga. Lows of 23-25°C and highs of 30-34°C are expected. From Phang Nga northward, westerly winds of 20 to 35km/h are expected. Waves reach 1-2 metres, above 2 metres in thundershowers. From Phuket southward, winds turn southwesterly with comparable wave conditions.

Warnings

The department warns that heavy to very heavy rain may cause flash floods, overflows and landslides. Waterways near foothills and lowland areas face the greatest risk. Ships in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf should steer clear of thundershowers. Waves may reach 2-3 metres in the upper Gulf, and above 3 metres during thundershowers. Small boats in the upper Gulf are advised to remain ashore until 27 September 2026.

September 24, 2026

IMG_0553.webp

Swedish furniture giant IKEA is expanding its presence in Thailand with a new store in Khon Kaen, its first location in the country’s northeastern region.

The store will officially open on 30 October 2026 at Lotus Khon Kaen 1. It will cover around 850 square metres and feature 11 room displays and more than 1,400 products, with more than 300 available for customers to take home immediately.

The expansion comes as IKEA Thailand prepares to cut prices on more than 1,000 products, with prices starting from 19 baht, as part of its new financial-year strategy.

The Khon Kaen store will also offer Click & Collect services and a Swedish food section with more than 65 Swedish food and bakery products.

IKEA Thailand said the new location will also strengthen its IKEA for Business operations, supporting companies in the region with furniture and workplace solutions. The company aims to generate 300 million baht in IKEA for Business sales in Thailand by 2030.

The expansion gives IKEA greater access to customers outside Thailand’s major metropolitan areas while extending the Swedish brand’s retail and business presence in the country.

Pattaya raises red flags after six boats sink in rough seas
September 25, 2026

Pattaya raised red warning flags today, September 25, after heavy rain and strong winds battered the coast overnight, bringing high waves that sank six boats.

The severe weather began late last night and continued into this morning, bringing heavy rain, powerful gusts and high waves that made sea travel unsafe. Officials prohibited both large and small tourist boats from departing until conditions improve.

Strong winds and waves continued to batter Pattaya Beach this morning, preventing several beach chair operators from opening as usual. Numerous tourist boats sought shelter along the beachfront and around Bali Hai Cape.

Preliminary inspections found that six boats had sunk in the rough conditions, including one large tourist boat and five speedboats.

Two other large boats used for tourist parasailing activities were also blown onto the beach by the strong winds and waves.

The Pattaya Regional Marine Office warned boat operators to exercise greater caution, monitor weather conditions closely and keep their vessels ashore while the rough seas persist.

The office said the restrictions were intended to prevent accidents and protect tourists and marine tourism operators from the dangerous conditions.

Pattaya is expected to remain on alert for strong winds and rough seas over the next three to four days. Boat operators and tourists have been urged to follow announcements from the relevant agencies before making any sea journeys

All 50 districts of Bangkok have been declared disaster zones as heavy rain continues to cause flooding, traffic problems and disruptions to daily life.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt signed the order on Saturday morning to expand the disaster designation beyond three districts covered earlier: Nong Chok, Suan Luang and Khan Na Yao.

The move allows the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, other state agencies and local administrations to respond more quickly and systematically in affected areas, according to the announcement.

It came as heavy rain continued to cause flooding and traffic problems in several parts of the capital, with eastern Bangkok among the hardest-hit areas.

A cell broadcast alert was sent to residents shortly after 9am, saying water levels in canals were already at critical levels and were expected to rise further.

According to the Meteorological Department, the main cause of the unsettled weather is a strong low-pressure system covering the lower Central Plains, Bangkok and surrounding provinces. The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand is also strengthening.

Heavy rain is expected to continue until Sunday nationwide, the department said on Saturday morning. (Story continues below

Meanwhile, discharges from the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat province are gradually being increased to 1,950 cubic metres per second, up from 1,850 cu m/sec, according to the Royal Irrigation Department.

The increase began at 9am, with the discharge rate to rise by about 20 cu m/sec per hour until it reaches 1,950 cu m/sec at around 2pm. The rate will then be maintained at that level.

People living in low-lying areas along the Chao Phraya River, downstream of the dam and along the Noi River were urged to closely monitor water levels and official announcements and prepare for possible changes in the situation.

Flooding was reported in 20 provinces as of Saturday morning: Nakhon Ratchasima, Chanthaburi, Phetchabun, Chon Buri, Chachoengsao, Buri Ram, Surin, Sing Buri, Samut Prakan, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Rayong, Ang Thong, Chai Nat, Uthai Thani, Prachin Buri, Ayutthaya, Sa Kaeo, Phitsanulok, Suphan Buri and Nakhon Phanom.

400kg crocodile moved from flooded Prachinburi temple

A 27-year-old crocodile weighing more than 400kg has been moved from a flooded temple in Prachinburi amid fears it could escape into the river.

Residents and monks in Prachinburi breathed a sigh of relief after a crocodile weighing more than 400 kilogrammes was moved from Wat Pho Thong as flooding spread across the temple grounds.

On Sunday afternoon (September 27, 2026), Juthamas Buaphuean, chief of Si Maha Phot district, received a request from the temple for officials to help relocate the crocodile from its flooded enclosure.

She coordinated with the Department of Fisheries, Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue volunteers and local residents to carry out the operation.

Officials secured the crocodile’s jaws and legs with ropes before moving it onto the road. A truck-mounted crane was then used to lift the animal onto a vehicle for transportation.

The crocodile, named Nuea Thong, is 27 years old, more than four metres long and weighs over 400kg.

Water around its enclosure at Wat Pho Thong had risen to about 1.3 metres. The crocodile was taken to a temporary holding facility in another subdistrict approximately 20 kilometres away, where flooding had not affected the area.

The relocation brought relief to the temple abbot, residents and officials, who had been concerned that the crocodile could escape from its enclosure and enter the Prachin Buri River as floodwater continued to rise.

Authorities feared such an escape could cause alarm among nearby communities.

Koh Larn sea turns green after heavy rain, likely natural plankton bloom

By Pattaya Mail October 1, 2026

1790915731516.webp

Koh Larn’s sea turned green in sections on September 30, particularly around Tawaen Beach, with the color change believed to be linked to a natural plankton bloom following heavy rain.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Tourists visiting Koh Larn were surprised on September 30 when sections of the sea around the popular island turned noticeably green, prompting questions about whether the unusual color was linked to pollution.

Pattaya authorities said the change in color is believed to be associated with a natural phenomenon known as a plankton bloom, in which marine plankton multiply rapidly and can change the color of seawater. The explanation is consistent with conditions around Pattaya in recent days, which have included heavy rain, strong winds and unsettled weather.

Heavy rainfall can send increased amounts of freshwater, sediment and nutrients from the mainland into coastal waters. The additional nutrients can provide conditions for plankton to multiply, particularly during the rainy season. Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources also identifies nutrients washed from land during the rainy season as an important factor behind seawater color changes.

Reports from Koh Larn indicate that the green color has been particularly noticeable around Tawaen Beach, while the phenomenon does not necessarily affect every beach around the island. Similar green-water events have been observed around Koh Larn during rainy periods in previous years.

1790915816695.webp

Pattaya City is monitoring the unusual green seawater around Koh Larn while the temporary colour change is being linked to a possible natural plankton bloom.

The color change is expected to be temporary and can gradually disappear when the weather, water movement and other conditions supporting the plankton bloom return to normal. Local reports have suggested the water could clear within several days, although the timing can vary.

For visitors, the green colour alone should not automatically be taken as evidence of sewage or other pollution. However, if seawater develops an unusual smell, heavy surface scum or is accompanied by significant numbers of dead marine animals, visitors should avoid entering the water and follow advice from marine and environmental authorities.

Pattaya City said it will continue monitoring the situation while Koh Larn remains open to visitors. The island continues to welcome tourists, with conditions varying between beaches as the natural phenomenon develops and fades.
