Yesterday, May 8, a severe hailstorm accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain struck Udon Thani, causing significant damage to numerous houses. The storm, occurring at 1.30pm, uprooted trees and toppled high-voltage power poles, obstructing roads and disrupting power supply in multiple areas.

In Baan Jeet, Moo 4, Baan Jeet subdistrict, Gu Kaew district, the storm tore off roofs from several homes, leaving a trail of destruction. Residents reported hailstones the size of gooseberries.

A local who captured the event on video expressed astonishment, saying, “Oh my, hail is falling here! It’s dangerous, protect your vehicles!”

Similarly, in Baan Sok Moo, Moo 9, Nong Han subdistrict, Nong Han district, the storm caused significant damage to rooftops. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

A hailstorm struck That Phanom district yesterday, causing severe damagewith high winds toppling 26 high-voltage electricity poles along the Nakhon Phanom-That Phanom road, leading to widespread power outages. Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) teams are working to repair the damage.

The storm, yesterday, May 7, with hail and strong winds hit That Phanom district, particularly affecting Ban Bung Hee in Phra Klang Thung subdistrict. The storm began at 1.20pm, and its intensity was such that it knocked down electricity poles over a 900-metre stretch, obstructing two lanes of the four-lane road.

The power outage affected multiple areas, causing significant traffic disruptions as vehicles had to navigate through alternative routes toward That Phanom district.

The weather was hot and humid before the storm’s arrival, with strong gusts preceding the hail. The storm lasted about 20 minutes, resulting in significant infrastructure damage.

Lightning strike kills four cows in Nakhon Ratchasima storm​

During a storm, four cows from a herd seeking shelter under a tree were killed by a lightning strike, while two others were knocked unconscious but later recovered.

The owner was in shock as she was herding them back to avoid the rain around 2pm yesterday, May 5. The incident occurred at Pranee Songsawat’s cattle pen in Baan Takud Rang, Udomsap subdistrict, Wang Nam Khiao district, Nakhon Ratchasima province.

The Hook 21 rescue unit from Udomsap and local administrative officials reported the event, which resulted in the deaths of four cows out of a total of 26. Fortunately, no residents were harmed during the incident.

Wanna Butsamrong, the village head of Takud Rang, Moo 4, Udomsap subdistrict, Wang Nam Khiao district, explained that Pranee, the cattle owner, was herding her 26 cows into an open pen enclosed by barbed wire. As the rainstorm was accompanied by thunder, the herd sought shelter under a tree.
