Misshandel i skolan

Hej

Ex-school principal gets 50 years for dipping into lunch money

TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2024

A former school principal in Nakhon Sawan has been sentenced to 50 years in jail for siphoning some 596,000 baht from his students’ lunch budget in 2021.
The Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases Area 6 issued a guilty verdict against Suthep Sukthong on May 15, but the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) only announced the ruling on Tuesday.
The NACC indicted Suthep and an accomplice, Wisut Puangchampee, in 2021, accusing them of violating the Criminal Code and the NACC Act on 50 counts by siphoning funds allocated to provide lunch to students.

The case against Wisut was dismissed because he is no longer alive.
The NACC announced that it had resolved on July 1 to endorse the Office of the Attorney-General’s decision to not appeal against the ruling.
Suthep was charged with obtaining a budget of 20 baht per head for providing lunch to his students, but he only paid 14 baht per head to a contracted cook for the meal.
Due to this limited budget, the students were found to be mostly fed fried fish head or fried meatballs for lunch. Sometimes, they were served poor quality pre-cooked meals from the market, which was found to be rotten sometimes.
According to the NACC, the court found Suthep guilty of violating the law on 50 counts. The court initially sentenced him to 50 years for each count, totalling 250 years in jail, but commuted it by a third after the convict pleaded guilty.
However, since the maximum prison allowed by law is 50 years, Suthep has been sentenced to 50 years and is ordered to return 596,208 baht he had siphoned to the Takli District Municipality.

A Thai mother exposed the cruel behaviour of a teacher in the central province of Prachin Buri who allegedly struck her three year old son’s penis with a steel ruler causing severe injury.
The mother contacted several Thai news agencies to publicise her son’s story and seek appropriate punishment for the accused teacher. Channel 7 interviewed the family on December 12 and discovered that the abuse came to light on November 7.

The boy‘s grandmother told the media that she was bathing her grandson, as usual, when he screamed and said that his penis hurt. She did not pay attention to the pain until the boy cried and told her about it again two hours later.

The grandmother carefully checked his private parts and found bruising, so she immediately took the boy to hospital and called his mother. The boy was admitted to hospital overnight due to the inflammation of his genitals.

The boy’s mother, 30 year old Darika, told the media that she continued to ask her son about the pain until he revealed that it was the result of being punished at school.

According to the boy, the teacher hit his genitals with a steel ruler because he tore his book during class. Darika contacted the teacher about the matter but the teacher denied the accusation, saying the boy might have hurt himself while playing or contracted an illness outside school.

Darika emphasised to the media that the medical examination confirmed that the boy had not been bitten by insects or contracted any diseases.

Parents of about 20 primary school pupils filed police complaints late yesterday, July 11, after alleging that a mathematics teacher at a school in Chanthaburi struck their children as punishment with a durian-tapping stick.

The complaints were filed at Laem Sing Police Station after parents said pupils in Prathom 4 to Prathom 6 were punished for failing to submit assignments or making mistakes in their mathematics homework.

They alleged the teacher used a durian-tapping stick fitted with a rubber tip to hit students on the buttocks between 16 and 50 times, leaving some with bruising.

5 year old boy forced to stand naked in front of classmates at Bangkok school

A Bangkok family sought help from the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women after their five year old son was forced to stand naked in front of his classmates as punishment for not finishing a colouring activity.

The boy’s parents filed a complaint with the foundation today, September 4. They said the incident left their son distressed, reluctant to eat or sleep, and afraid to return to school. The family also expressed concern that the teacher aide involved had not faced disciplinary action.

The child’s mother told the foundation that the incident came to light on August 27 after her son’s grandmother noticed that his school uniform was inside out when he returned home.

The grandmother asked the boy what had happened, and he reportedly said a teacher aide had punished him because he had not finished colouring.

The boy explained that he was made to remove his clothes and stand at the front of the classroom, leaving him embarrassed and in tears.

The grandmother did not initially tell the boy’s parents about the incident, and the child continued attending school on August 28.

His mother said he appeared withdrawn, had difficulty eating and sleeping, did not want to return to school and described the teacher as very strict and unkind.

The boy later told his mother about the incident himself on August 29. The mother then asked about what had happened in the class’s LINE group but received no response.

The teacher aide later contacted her privately through LINE and reportedly admitted carrying out the punishment. She said the boy was quite difficult and that she and the teacher did not want to punish him by hitting him. The teacher aide reportedly said they instead made him stand without his clothes on.

The mother subsequently shared details of the incident in the LINE group for parents and was later contacted by the teacher aide, who asked her to delete the message. The mother refused because she wanted to retain it as evidence.

The mother took her son to report the incident at Rat Burana Police Station on August 30. The family then met the school’s management on August 31 to ask what disciplinary action would be taken against the teacher aide.

The deputy director reportedly told the family that the school could only issue a warning and could not dismiss the teacher or take further action. The family subsequently contacted the foundation to seek assistance and pursue action over the incident.

Paveena Hongsakul, president of the foundation, said she was saddened by what had happened. She said the foundation would coordinate with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt to establish a committee to investigate the incident and take action against the teacher aide.

The foundation will also follow up on the police case with officers at Rat Burana Police Station and is prepared to take the boy to Police General Hospital for psychological assessment and support.

As of today, September 4, the school and the teacher aide involved had not publicly commented on the allegations.
