Thai government launches ฿50,000 rooftop solar subsidy for households​

The government has launched a 50-billion-baht ‘Rooftop Solar for the Public’ scheme, offering a 50,000-baht subsidy per household to promote clean energy and lower electricity bills, with registrations open until January 31 next year.

Deputy Government Spokeswoman Lalida Persvivatana announced on Thursday that the Cabinet approved the budget on Tuesday to assist up to one million residential households with equipment and installation costs.

Online registrations, handled by the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), opened on Tuesday and recorded over 50,000 applicants on the first day.

Lalida urged the public to review key terms and conditions before applying, noting that the 50,000-baht direct cash subsidy cannot be combined with the personal income tax deduction of up to 200,000 baht for rooftop solar installations under Royal Decree No. 805 (B.E. 2569 (2026)).

She added that State Welfare Cardholders are eligible to participate, but they must agree to forfeit their 315-baht monthly electricity subsidy for 20 years, starting from the date of grid connection, while their other state welfare benefits will remain unaffected.

To qualify, applicants must be Thai nationals who name is linked to the household electricity meter, and the subsidy applies to residential solar systems with a capacity of 5 to 10 kilowatts installed by contractors registered with the PEA or MEA.

Grid connection applications must be submitted by August 31 and successfully connected by September 30 next year.

The 50,000-baht payment will be disbursed only after all required conditions and installation processes are fully completed, rather than immediately upon registration.

A new terminal and fourth runway could double Suvarnabhumi airport's annual passenger capacity to 120 million within the next seven years, according to Airports of Thailand's (AOT) plan for the airport.

AOT president Paweena Jariyathitipong said on Monday that the airport's existing annual capacity was about 60 million passengers, comprising 45 million at its main terminal and 15 million at the SAT-1 terminal.

Ms Paweena said AOT would soon propose the latest development plan for Suvarnabhumi airport to the cabinet, along with its East Expansion project.

The development plan includes construction of a southern terminal and the airport's fourth runway, with both projects expected to be completed within six to seven years, she said.

The project is expected to take four years to complete and will expandservice areas, including check-in counters and baggage conveyor belts, to accommodate at least 10 million passengers annually.

Together, the projects are expected to increase the annual passenger capacity of the airport to 120 million, Ms Paweena said.

The airport will introduce a premium service for VIPs this month to cater to businesspeople, celebrities and customers with special needs, in addition to a fast-track immigration lane.

The Don Mueang airport budget for its third-phase development plan would increase from 36 billion baht, set in 2022, to 69 billion baht. The plan is expected to raise the airport's annual passenger capacity to 40 million.

Det behövs verkligen.

I år regnar det senare än vanligt i Isan och detta drabbar risbönderna som skördar och torkar sitt ris nu, normalt ska det ju inte regna där nu och detta ställer till problem för bönderna som nu ska få lön för mödan och många månaders arbete. Misstänker att många drabbades av samma problem.

Bönderna i Non Daeng-distriktet, Nakhon Ratchasima-provinsen, har drabbats av kraftig regn precis när de torkade sin nylagade ris.
