A horse farm owner in Ang Thong today, March 19, resorted to riding his horsethrough his village with a fuel can to search for petrol, after vehicles used to feed and transport horses ran out of fuel.

The incident took place at Cowboy Farm in Ban Phran subdistrict, Sawaeng Ha district, where the farm’s owner, San Kongwet, said he had been struggling to buy petrol.

He told reporters that he rode his horse from the rice fields while carrying a gallon container, travelling along village roads to look for a station that still had fuel available.

Thailand’s Consumer Protection Police Division inspected an Ang Thong fuel distributor after complaints of above-market prices, finding more than 331,000 litres of diesel and gasohol worth 12.5m baht and sending samples for quality and excise tax checks.​

Officers from the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) raided a fuel storage depot in Mueang district, Ang Thong, after receiving complaints that petrol and diesel were being sold at unusually high prices in nearby areas, officials said.

The inspection took place on March 19, 2026, with CPPD officers working alongside provincial energy and commerce officials. During the search, authorities found a large stockpile of fuel totalling more than 331,000 litres, with an estimated value of 12,520,400 baht, broken down as follows:

• Diesel: about 48,000 litres
• Gasohol 95: about 210,000 litres
• Gasohol 91: about 73,000 litres

Preliminary checks found the company had been selling diesel to customers in Sing Buri and nearby provinces at 40.50 baht per litre, which officials said was above typical market pricing. The company claimed it had purchased the diesel from an upstream supplier at 39.50 baht per litre.

However, when officers requested purchase-and-sale documents and proof of payment, the company was unable to produce the records, officials said.

Authorities collected fuel samples and sent them to the Department of Energy Business for quality testing, and also forwarded samples and information to the Excise Department to verify whether excise duty had been properly paid.

An official said that if wrongdoing is confirmed, authorities will proceed with strict legal action.

Fuel frustration mounts​

'Oil mafias' targeted over hoarding fears



Public frustration is mounting across Thailand over restricted access to fuel, despite repeated government assurances that national reserves remain ample.

Officials insist there is no overall shortage, citing combined reserves sufficient for 104 days, yet scenes on the ground tell a more complicated story.

Late evening at a petrol station in Samut Prakan, tractors, lorries and motorcycles queued as rules banned container refuelling, forcing machinery onto roads.

In Nakhon Ratchasima, demand remains intense. Lorry driver Kriangkrai said he stops at multiple stations each day, as purchases are capped at 1,000 baht per visit. "I have to refuel at up to 10 stations a day; this disrupts transport schedules." Other motorists report similar difficulties.

In the South, supply disruptions have been more acute. A manager overseeing four petrol stations in Songkhla said deliveries had been suspended, forcing temporary closures. While shipments are expected to resume shortly, uncertainty has already affected local businesses and residents.

I övrigt är ju detta system med att regeringen sätter ett maxpris inte nytt, inte hemligt och ja, här har Kim rätt.

Vad som dock är vanligt är att thai faranger vägrar se sanningen i det mesta och föredrar sin egen, men det är en helt annan sak, en helt annan.

Det är märkligt med prissättningen här.
En liten mack cirka 10 km från där jag bor kostar dieseln 40,87 men i ett större samhälle cirka 20 km härifrån så är priset 32, 87 hos PTT
