Thai immigration police have been ordered to track down more than 10,000 foreigners believed to be overstaying their visas, in a nationwide operation stretching from Bangkok to tourist islands and border provinces.

The order, issued by Immigration Bureau chief Police Lieutenant General Nopasin Poolsawat, forms part of a wider police campaign against organised fraud, drug trafficking and illegal immigration led by National Police Commissioner General Samran Nuanma.

Krabi Launches “Nominee Crackdown” Targeting Ao Nang

Thursday, 29 October 2026, 21:09

Krabi –

On the 29th of October 2026 at 11:30 a.m., Krabi Governor Angkun Silatewakul and Police Lieutenant General Wimon Phithakburapha, Commander of Provincial Police Region 8, jointly launched Operation “Nominee Crackdown” in the Ao Nang Subdistrict of the Mueang Krabi District.

The operation is to prevent and suppress foreign nationals engaged in businesses that may violate Thai law, with a particular focus on cases where Thai citizens are allegedly used as nominees to conceal true ownership and control of enterprises.

Authorities have identified multiple business categories requiring scrutiny, including hotels, accommodations, retail outlets, and restaurants. Investigators are examining the management structures and identifying the actual beneficial owners. Evidence is currently being gathered for possible legal proceedings.

Police Lieutenant General Wimon stated that the operation is a coordinated effort involving the police and various provincial agencies, including local administration, the Provincial Commercial Office, Revenue Office, Public Health Office, Customs Office and Employment Office, among others.

The goal, he said, is to safeguard Thailand’s economic system and ensure fairness for operators who conduct business in compliance with the law. He reaffirmed that the use of Thai nationals as nominees will not be allowed to serve as a means of circumventing legal restrictions, and that investigations will expand to all levels of involvement based on the evidence obtained.

Thailand probes 19 firms linked to rabbi stripped of Thai citizenship

Thai authorities examine 19 firms linked to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor and possible offences involving relatives after his Thai citizenship was revoked.

Thai authorities are investigating 19 companies linked to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor after his Thai citizenship was revoked, and checking whether relatives who hold Thai nationality have committed any offences, Deputy Interior Minister Polapee Suwunchwee said on October 30, 2026.

Kantor is head of the Chabad network in Thailand and a leader of the country’s Jewish community. Polapee explained that the prime minister had signed the revocation order following a case referred by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to the Department of Provincial Administration.

According to Polapee, officials had established that Kantor continued to use his US nationality after acquiring Thai citizenship.

Relatives under investigation

The Department of Provincial Administration is identifying Kantor’s descendants and others who subsequently obtained Thai nationality. It is also examining whether his descendants and relatives living in Thailand who hold Thai citizenship have committed any offences.

Polapee indicated that similar action would be taken against anyone found to have committed violations.

Land and company holdings examined

Investigators are also examining when each plot of land held by Kantor was acquired and whether ownership breached Thai law. Polapee explained that the Department of Lands would require land to be sold if unlawful holdings during his period as a Thai citizen were established.

The Department of Provincial Administration’s investigation has identified 19 companies linked to Kantor. The Department of Lands and the Commerce Ministry’s Department of Business Development are coordinating their work to complete the case file promptly.

“If shareholdings exceed the proportions permitted by law, the companies will be treated as nominee businesses,” Polapee said.

The DSI and the Department of Lands are also compiling information to establish whether the 19 companies hold interests in other businesses.

“If offences are found, we will pursue asset seizures, freezes and compulsory sales in accordance with the law.”

Krabi arrests 18 in Ao Nang nominee crackdown

IMG_0657.webp

Immigration police and regional officers have arrested 18 people in a crackdown on alleged foreign nominee businesses in Ao Nang, Krabi, with Indian, Myanmar and Thai nationals detained.

The operation, carried out at five locations in the resort area, followed a police investigation into companies allegedly set up as fronts using Thai shareholders on behalf of foreigners. Authorities said arrest warrants had been issued for suspects.

Five sites searched in Ao Nang

Colonel Charoenphong Khantilo, spokesman for Immigration Division 6, announced the results on 30 October 2026.

Krabi Immigration Police worked with Provincial Police Region 8 and Krabi provincial police investigators to execute Krabi Provincial Court search warrants at five targets in Ao Nang, in Mueang Krabi district.

The investigation team was led by Colonel Dusit Jitkhunthod, superintendent of Krabi Immigration, Lieutenant Colonel Wiracha Sanansilp, deputy superintendent, and Lieutenant Colonel Wirat Inyot, an inspector.

Indian, Myanmar and Thai suspects named

Police said the court approved warrants covering 26 alleged participants.

Seven foreigners were named in the warrants: five Indian nationals and two Myanmar nationals. They are accused of allowing Thai nationals to hold shares on their behalf.

Nineteen Thai nationals were also wanted, accused of helping foreigners by acting as nominee shareholders.

Officers have now detained 18 suspects. The remaining eight are believed to be evading arrest, with investigators continuing efforts to locate them, police said.

The broader enforcement drive was carried out under policies set by national police chief General Samran Nuanma, Immigration Bureau commissioner Lieutenant General Noppasin Poolsawat, and deputy commissioners Major General Thanit Thaivatcharamas and Major General Nattakorn Prapayon.

Police described the Ao Nang businesses under investigation as front companies. Legitimate foreign investors and business owners may wish to ensure their company records, shareholding arrangements and immigration status are in order, particularly where Thai partners or shareholders are involved.

Colonel Charoenphong said cooperation between agencies, supported by Immigration Bureau information technology systems and linked databases, had made it more effective to identify foreigners allegedly involved in illegal activity.

He said members of the public can report suspected wrongdoing involving foreign nationals to the Immigration Bureau hotline on 1178, available 24 hours a day.
