An eight year old boy in Thailand has charmed locals by riding his pet buffaloto and from school each day, turning heads with his unique daily routine.
Thanwa “Fluke” Thong-iam makes his daily journey to school on the back of his pet buffalo, Kalamae. The pair have become a familiar sight in Khao Yoi district, Phetchaburi province, where they travel over 800 metres together each morning and afternoon.
Every weekday around 6.30am, Fluke climbs onto Kalamae’s back in an impressively graceful move, stepping onto her horns and swinging up with ease. But before mounting, the young boy performs a respectful wai, showing appreciation for his unusual but loyal steed.
Kalamae then walks Fluke to Wat Nong Som School, where she’s tied near a pond by the school gates. There, she spends the day grazing peacefully until Fluke finishes his classes at 4pm. The buffalo never strays and appears to know when it’s time to head home.
“She’ll shake her head and trot over when it’s time. It’s like she knows I have to go to school.”
