Swedish Muay Thai fighter Johanna Persson will make her promotional debut in ONE Championship on Friday 11 July 2025, headlining ONE Fight Night 33 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. In her first bout for the organization, she will challenge reigning champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues for the ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Title.

The 30-year-old striker from Gävle, Sweden, trains at Gefle Fight Camp and Sitjaopho Muaythai in Thailand. Her entry into Muay Thai began at age 23 while studying to become a teacher. Within a few years, she had transitioned from amateur success to the professional scene, winning the WMC Nordic, WMC European, ISKA Strawweight, and most recently, the WBC Muay Thai World Championship in April 2025.

Persson joins ONE Championship riding a seven-fight win streak, and says she is embracing the pressure of the title fight:
“How many times will this happen to me? I don’t know. Pressure aside, I just want to really enjoy this moment instead of feeling nervous or anxious,” she told ONE.

ONE Fight Night 33: Rodrigues vs. Persson will be broadcast live in U.S. primetime

A 68-year-old Swedish man died after collapsing on the shoreline at Kata Beach in Phuket on Tuesday afternoon, August 20.

According to lifeguard Ledet Sandod, who was on duty at the time, the tourist was coming out of the water shortly after noon when he suddenly collapsed face down as he reached knee depth. Sandod and a beachgoer rushed to his aid and called for an ambulance.

The man was transported to Chalong Hospital, but doctors confirmed he had already passed away before arrival.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Surasak Sudmuang of Karon Police said there were no signs of assault on his body.

The Swedish national had been staying at a nearby resort with friends since August 15 and was scheduled to leave Thailand on Sunday, August 24. He was travelling with two companions, though they were staying in separate rooms.

Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of relatives.
