(i) The Railway Line extends from Dar es Salaam to New Kapiri Mposhi and covers a total distance of 1,860 kilometers.
(ii) The track gauge is 1,067mm.

There are two type of Sleepers used in TAZARA:
(a) Prestessed concrete sleepers.

Main line track on tangent = 1,458.582 kilometers.

The ruling gradient is 1% except for the mountainous section Mlimba – Chozi (541.2km) is 2%.
Radius of curves: minimum is 300m except for Mlimba – Makambako (200m), Malamba – Tunduma (250m).
Curves with radius less than 300m have a total length of 37.318 km.
