Hej

Elephant tramples mum to death while she tried to run away in horror attack at national park in Thailand

James Halpin – The Sun December 14, 2024

Authorities have revealed their shock after discovering the horrific way a mother was killed by a large elephant while in Thailand.

An elephant has trampled a mum to death while she tried to run away from it in a horror attack in Thailand.
Jiranan Panyaprasertying, 49, was exploring one of the country’s national parks with a friend when they were chased by the charging wild beast.

Tragically, Jiranan tripped as she fled with the angry elephant then stepping on her head and crushing her skull.

The attack on Wednesday in Phu Kradueng National Park shocked rangers who attended the scene and found the woman splayed on the grass.

Cops are now investigating the tragic death after the woman was trampled

Police Major General Pongpipat Siripornwiwat said police sent a helicopter and questioned the friend over the attack.

The friend said Jiranan had been walking some 200m ahead of her when she was attacked by the elephant.

Park officials said it was the first time a tourist had been attacked along the trail and the park is now closed.

He said: “The National Parks Department would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and ask that tourists strictly follow the advice of officials for safety while travelling.”

He added that Jiranan’s family will receive 100,000THB (AY$4570) of financial aid from the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection

I slut ändan skall stålar in.

Forest protection officials and veterinarians in Si Racha district of Chon Buri province successfully freed a baby elephant from an animal trap yesterday and treated an infected wound on its right front leg.

Kongkiat Temtomnan, director of the 2nd Conservation Area Management Office, based in Si Racha, said that he received a report from his team about the presence of a large herd of elephants in the forest and one calf was found with leg in a trap.

A team of veterinarians and forest officials found the injured animal lying under its mother’s belly, accompanied by two more elephants.

The officials then chased the herd to a spot about 100 metres away, but the mother elephant and its calf did not move. An official used tranquiliser darts to sedate the two animals and removed the trap, while vets cleaned and checked the wound on the baby elephant and administered antibiotics

PICTURED: SPANISH STUDENT, 22, WHO WAS GORED TO DEATH BY AN ELEPHANT IN THAILAND

BY LAURENCE DOLLIMORE

The 22-year-old was ‘attacked’ on Friday while bathing with the animal at the Koh Yao Elephant Care centre on the island of Yao Yai (stock photo of the centre above right).

She has been named as Blanca Ojanguren (pictured above left), and was known for her love of traveling and experiencing new cultures, reports El Español.

The death has been confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Spanish Embassy is assisting her relatives.

The young woman was from Valladolid and had been studying Law and International Relations at the University of Navarra, in Pamplona, since 2020, reports Diario de Navarra.

Local police in Thailand first reported the death, which was later confirmed by the elephant centre.

A worker explained that the tourist was bathing the elephant when she passed in front of the animal and it ‘stuck a tusk in her,’ causing injuries from which she later died.
“The Consulate in Bangkok is in contact with the relatives, offering all necessary consular assistance,” said Spanish foreign minister Jose Manuel Albares.

Washing elephants, or bathing with them, are popular activities for tourists in Thailand.

Most incidents with elephants usually occur with wild specimens, which sometimes cross into areas inhabited by people, due to the loss of natural habitat.
In the last 12 years, there have been 240 deaths due to attacks by wild elephants, including 39 fatalities in 2024, according to data from the Department of National Parks cited by The Nation newspaper.
