Game-Changing 1,000 Rai Integrated Resort Town for Khao Lak’s Memories Beach. Khao Lak’s iconic Memories surf beach is set to undergo a major transformation into a green-focused resort town named Matalay, which translates to “come to the sea.”
Global design firm Gensler has created a master plan that reimagines the area, integrating the existing Memories Beach and surf facilities into a vibrant surf village with sustainable bamboo architecture.
Matalay will feature a stunning 1.1-kilometer stretch of white sand beach and will include five oceanfront resorts. The development will incorporate a green belt and multiple lakes to enhance mobility throughout the site. It will also include a hospital, an international school, wellness centers, glamping options, a town center with commercial spaces, residential areas, and cultural attractions.
Thai creative leader Boonserm Premthada from Bangkok Design Studio has been tapped to design art installations and a park that will add to the area’s appeal.
The Matalay project is fully owned by the Boonsong family, and the development advisory team is led by former JLL Hotels and Hospitality Group senior executive Mike Batchelor with his company, Hospitality Capital Advisors Group (HCA).
Construction is already underway, and HCA is currently in discussions with potential co-developers for the hotel sites.

Hoppas du har fel. Blir det för likriktat blir det ganska tråkigt. Vi människor är ju inte lika och de som hyr och styr kommer förhoppningsvis att erbjuda olika alternativ.
Fast jag är tacksam att jag sett 40 års utveckling i Thailand. Saknar en del saker sen förr men inte en del. Att det idag är svårt att hitta ett större urval av öl ute på vishan väger inte alls tungt. Ändå är det det jag klagar över.
Saknar den ärlighet och omtanke som fortfarande finns på en del ställen men blir mer och mer osynlig i det moderna Thailand. Idag är det sällan man ser någon på bussen resa sig och ge plats till en äldre. Åker och andra sidan inte buss så ofta, men ibland tåg och BTS vilket också kan visa på samma tendens. Och andra sidan gamla tidens trafikstockningar i Bangkok var inte att leka med, det blev bättre när BTS kom.

Bungalovs som inte hade lås och man lämnade grejor hur som helst utan att de försvann saknar jag definitivt.
Mycket som inte är som den gamla goda tiden.
