Nyheter gällande svenskar i Thailand.

Swedish citizen arrested in Chonburi after car theft

A Korean national with Swedish citizenship was arrested on January 2, 2025, following a dramatic 100-kilometer police chase that ended with the theft of a pickup truck. The incident unfolded on Highway 36 (Chonburi-Rayong Bypass) and left the stolen car severely damaged and burned. Swedish citizen arrested in Chonburi after car theft

The chase began when the suspect hijacked a pickup truck in Lat Krabang and sped onto the motorway. Dashboard camera footage captured the high-speed pursuit, reminiscent of an action film, as police followed the suspect from Bangkok to Chonburi Province.

As the pursuit neared Pattaya City, the stolen vehicle’s tire burst, and the pickup truck crashed violently. The wheel rim scraped against the road, creating sparks and igniting flames. Debris was scattered across the highway as the vehicle’s rear axle broke loose and collided with a guard rail, rendering the truck a mangled wreck.

Rescue workers swiftly employed chemical extinguishers to douse the flames. The highway police eventually apprehended the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Jin Sub, a 39-year-old Korean national with Swedish citizenship. He displayed signs of disorientation and incoherence at the time of his arrest. A victim was present to confirm the suspect’s identity, and during a search, authorities discovered a plastic bag containing cash.

Prior to the highway incident, Jalom, a 49-year-old witness, reported that he and his wife had noticed the suspect attacking a woman. When they stopped to help, the suspect seized their vehicle and fled. Jalom immediately alerted the Highway Police.

Jin Sub now faces three criminal charges: illegal entry into Thailand, theft at night, and property damage. The case is currently being processed at Bang Sao Thong Police Station.
