The Ministry of Transport will finally standardize the fares for motorcycle taxis nationwide, capping the fares at THB150 maximum.
In the new rule, fares for the first 2 kilometers cannot exceed THB25 and THB5 will be charged for every kilometer thereafter after any distance between 2-5 kilometers.
At a distance of 5-15 kilometer, it’s THB10 per kilometer.
A ride exceeding 15 kilometers will be dependent on the negotiated price, but the fare must not exceed THB150.
The new rates will become effective 60 days after it is officially announced in the Royal Gazette or before the year end, said Ormsin Chiwapruek, acting deputy Transport Minister.
He stated the standardized fares were to ensure fairness to both operators and passengers, Thai PBS reported.
