Hej
UK insurer brands Thailand ‘riskiest’ holiday destination based on number of claims

A report released yesterday by UK insurance provider Endsleigh labels Thailand the riskiest holiday destination in the world. Why? Because nearly a quarter of their travel insurance claims — 23 percent — were made in Thailand. No, really. That’s the only “evidence.”
Does this really make Thailand “the riskiest” holiday destination in the world? Well, maybe if you’re British and get your insurance from Endsleigh.
Of course, that didn’t stop the British tabloid press from running wild yesterday with headlines such as “world’s riskiest holiday destination revealed” or “these are the 10 riskiest places to travel abroad.”
It doesn’t come as a surprise that their customers would make insurance claims in Thailand, as Thailand is incredibly popular with British tourists. In fact, they’re one of the largest groups to visit Thailand. Last year, the nation welcomed a million tourists from the UK — one in every 35 visitors.
According to the company’s data, the top 10 “riskiest holiday destinations” are:
Although the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office doesn’t advise against traveling in Thailand, it notes that there are a high number of road traffic accidents in the nation (OK, we’ll give you that one) and that UK citizens should research local laws and customs before their travels. Well, duh.
Of course, we’re just assuming the Brit customers Endsleigh has dealt with were actually injured, unlike say … Mik Laverty, who tried to start a GoFund me page after lying about having his leg broken by muggers in Phuket. CCTV footage showed he had jumped from a hotel balcony on his own.
Jumping from hotel balconies like a dumbass, yet one more reason Thailand is … THE MOST DANGEROUS HOLIDAY DESTINATION! Aieeeeee!
